Rhode Island Recipes e-book sales to benefit Providence Ronald McDonald House

From September 15-22, Rhode Island Recipes will donate $2.00 of each e-book sale to help Ronald McDonald House of Providence provide shelter and support to families of sick kids at our local Rhode Island hospitals. Now's the time to grab the e-book, and help raise funds for this great nonprofit organization.

(Are you thinking, no, never, not me about e-cookbooks? Unwilling to give up those stained and splattered pages, and the hand-scribbled margin notes? Read on.)

Here are four things I really, really love about e-cookbooks:

Rhode Island weiner spice meatball sandwich (slow cooker recipe)

It's fun to take a recipe you love, and think about it differently. In the cookbook, our Rhode Island Weiner Spice Meatballs, seasoned with Olneyville NY System Weiner Spice Mix, baked in the oven, and served with Poblano Farm salsa for dipping, seem just right for football season. And yet, I've been wondering, could they be even better?

Quick and easy white clam chowder

What says New England summer more than clams? Chowder, stuffies, fried clam platters: we love them all.

We take clams for granted here in Rhode Island. If we haven't dug them ourselves on the beach, we've bought fresh clams at the fish market, or on the docks in South County. However, Rhode Island Recipes friends and fans in other parts of the country aren't as lucky as we are, and for them, this quick and easy chowder calls for canned chopped clams.

Of course, we're partial to our hometown clams from Iggy's Doughboys and Chowder House, which sells in markets throughout Rhode Island and also online.
